Four Feet to the Yard, LLC, is happy to provide you with estimates on garden installation. We can design your installation, work with your designer, or recommend one we have worked with.

Basis for the Estimate

Four Feet to the Yard, LLC, bases the maintenance estimate on usual weather conditions. It is our practice to mow grass when it needs to be mowed. Customers without automatic watering systems are mowed 25 to 35 times per year. In dry years we mow closer to 25; in wet years closer to 35. Customers with watering systems are mowed weekly during grass growing season. Unless weather keeps us indoors, we will not mow grass less frequently than needed. Such a practice is hard on your grass and on our machines, men, and profits. We must be the sole judge of when your grass needs to be mowed.

The estimated price of jobs other than mowing (such as cleanup and mulch) may change in scope and frequency if severe weather requires us to do some work again. Leaf control is accomplished throughout the fall. We control leaves in early fall by removing them from lawns, driveways, walkways, and seating areas. If we mow your grass, leaf control charges in early fall will be billed based on additional time required on each mowing visit. If you want to deal with your own leaves, please advise us and we will stop mowing when dealing with leaves requires us to spend extra time mowing, cleaning up, and dumping.

After all leaves are down, our final leaf control step is to remove leaves (leaf removal) from beds, shrubs, and groundcover areas in addition to the areas above. This will be performed only with your authorization.

Jobs such as leaf control and leaf removal that require hauling and dumping of debris will be charged a hauling fee based on the time to the dump and a dump fee based on our costs of dumping the debris.

This estimate is based on our 2007 labor rate of $50 per manhour. During our slow season (January-February) we automatically discount our labor rate to $45 per manhour. Job estimates include any slow season discount.

We carry liability, property damage, and workers’ compensation insurance.

Our work is unfinished unless it meets or exceeds industry quality standards. When made aware of defective work we will correct the work to that standard. We try to do work that will inspire you to recommend us to your friends and neighbors. As such, we invite your criticism of any work we do for you.

We will request your authorization to do all the work as estimated. If all recommended cleanup and mulch visits and gardening visits are not authorized, all these visits will be done on a labor ($50/per man per hour), materials, and fees basis. If circumstances require us to raise your price over an approved estimate, we will inform you of that as soon as we become aware of the need to adjust the price. Should you wish to cancel your authorization you may do so at any time. Work completed up to that time will be billed as estimated or on a time and materials basis if incomplete. When accounts become 60 days past due, service will automatically stop while collection is pursued.

District of Columbia residents pay a 5.75% service sales tax on our work. Estimates do not include this tax unless so indicated.
